Cap The cap ring is engraved with the name 'Arena di Verona' MMVI (2006).
Cap Top The emblem, made of mother-of-pearl is embedded in the oval of the arena on the cap.
Clip The Au750 solid gold clip is symbolising the shape of a sword.
Overall Design The cap and barrel are inspired by the historical brickwork of the Arena with its arches and pillars. The wooden inlay work on the cap and barrel as well as the clip are reminiscent of the origins of the Arena, when gladiators fought in the pit with swords and wooden shields. The writing instrument is made of Au750 solid white gold. The ring on the barrel is set with diamonds (~0,1665 ct.).
Cone The cone is made of Au750 solid white gold.
Nib The platinum-coated Au750 gold nib is decorated with the portrait of Verdi.
Limitation The limitation is paying tribute to the year in which the construction of the Arena had been finalized, 49 AD.

The Arena di Verona is a legendary and famous open-air stage of the operatic world which span an artistic timeline from ancient times to the present day. In the past, the Arena was used for various purposes: Gladiator fights during the reign of Emperor August, criminal courts in the Middle Ages and horse show, circus acts and acrobatics since the 16th century. Nowadays, it is the home for various cultural activities such as operas, ballets, and plays. The first opera to be performed was Aida by Giuseppe Verdi.
