Edition Overview
The edition celebrates Henri Matisse’s artwork The Romanian Blouse with design details reflecting this painting. Black and red lacquer on the barrel echoes the embroidery on the front of the blouse, while the pattern on the solid Au 750 gold cone is inspired by the embroidery on the blouse’s sleeves. The texture of the red and blue lacquer resembles the surface of a canvas. The generously rounded, almost sculptural shape of the cap is a nod to the pronounced curves of many Matisse sculptures. Black onyx surrounds the mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem in the cap top, framed by a solid Au 750 gold ring. The organic shape of the black-lacquered clip is an homage to Matisse’s large-scale painting The Sheaf. The motif on the handcrafted, solid Au 750 gold nib is an homage to Matisse’s drawing Large Face (Mask). The edition follows the design principle of effective proportions: the ratio of cap and barrel corresponds approximately to that of the golden ratio
