Charlie Chaplin, born 1889 in London, was a British actor and one of the biggest stars in the silent-film era of the 1920s. His first piece Tramp (1915) made him a superstar. While Modern Times was still published as a silent-film in 1936, he rather late opened up to the sound-film with The Great Dictator in 1940.
